2019 Outback & Coastal Tour 1

We depart Port Augusta for Iron Knob where we will have a tour of the township and the re-opened Princess Mine before continuing to Mount Ive station. Two days are spent exploring the station including Lake Gairdner, rhyolite pillars and historic buildings.

Enjoy the scenery of the Gawler Ranges national park as we make our way to Streaky Bay via Paney homestead, Scrubby Peak And Minnipa.

Over the next two days we visit the local sights including the worlds’ rarest sea lion colony, New Zealand Fur Seals, whistling rocks and blowholes, plus spectacular views of the Great Australian Bight.

Visit Smoky Bay and its aquaculture industry including a tour of SA premium oysters facility with some oyster tastings.

After restocking at Ceduna we head to Maralinga, joining Robin for two days to learn the history of Australia’s second atomic tests in the 1950‘s.

Explore the cliffs and beaches at Fowlers Bay with some great sand dune driving, and the opportunity to catch fish for dinner.

Spend time visiting the dunes at Cape Beaufort and Rocky Point at Tourville Bay with views over Yatala channel.

Travel across bluebush and salt lake country on vast sheep stations en-route to Kingoonya on the Transcontinental rail-line.

Wander amongst the exhibits at Woomera’s Aircraft and Missile Heritage display and visit the final resting place of Len Beadell, Australia’s last great explorer.

At Roxby Downs, learn the history of Olympic Dam mine, the fourth largest copper deposit and largest single deposit of uranium in the world.

No trip to the interior is complete without a visit to Lake Eyre, so we will stop on the Oodnadatta track to view the lake over Swan Island before journeying via Marree to the historic ruins of Farina.

We pass the now redundant coalfields at Leigh Creek on our way to the northern Gammon Ranges where we will explore Arkaroola on some exhilarating tracks.

The scenery is constantly changing as we visit the ancient petroglyphs at Chambers Gorge, the ruins of Artimore station, Hannigan Gap and the ruins of Nuccaleena mine & town site,
